Join us for a great week volunteering with a
community organization in Oregon or California!
There are three sites to choose from this spring break, March 24-30:
1. Affordable Housing: Self-Help Enterprises, Visalia CA
The concept of "self-help" is based upon the conviction that, given the proper tools, individuals can and will do the work necessary to improve their living conditions. This concept of "self-help" is not just a philosophy for homeownership, but is a driving force in all aspects of the organization. Along with the families, volunteers will dig and form foundations, pour and finish concrete, frame walls, install doors, windows, electrical wiring, and cabinet, lay floor tiles, and paint the homes' exterior and interior.
2. Sustainable Living & Permaculture: Lost Valley Educational Center, Dexter OR
Lost Valley Center is a learning community creating catalysts for joyful ecological, social and economic regeneration, offering coureses in permaculture, ecovillages, green neighborhoods, communication in community, creating cottage industries, and an intergral perspective which sees that all of us have something important to contribute to the planet at this time. Volunteers will work in the gardens, help building alternative infrastructure, and will learn about permaculture design, ecovillages and sustainable living.
3. Animal Care & Wildlife Preservation: Sites TBA, Portland OR
We will travel to Portland, OR, to learn about animals across the spectrum, partnering with organizations throughout the Portland Metro region and stretching all the way to northern Oregon coast. Spend time working with domestic animals, playing with dogs and cats up for adoption, learning about wildlife habitats throughout the state, visiting fisheries, bird observatories, shelters and more. Each day will bring a new site with its own unique perspective on animal control, adoption, wildlife preservation and habitat restoration.
